Umbelina E. Cantu

Umbelina E. Cantu, age 86, passed away February 8th, 2016. She was born on December 22, 1929 to Miguel and Faustina Everett in San Diego, Texas. She was married to her husband, Jose C. Cantu, 49 years before his passing. She was employed by Port Ave. Drug Store for 37 years. Umbelina was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, doing word find puzzles and crocheting, especially when she was able to teach her granddaughter, Madilynn. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports. She will be remembered for her kindness, laughter, sense of humor and her devotion to her family.

Umbelina was preceded in death by her husband Jose C. Cantu, and son Jose O. Cantu.

She is survived by her brothers Oran (Adela) Everett, and Armando Everett, children Ruben (Joann) Cantu, Adrian (Diana †) Cantu of Austin, Texas, Cynthia (Lee Roy) Cantu-Simmons, Thelma Cantu, Cathy Lozano, Michael (Laura) Cantu, Rudy (Molly) Kintana, 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank everyone for their love and prayers. Special thanks to Dr. Carlos and Anna Everett, Diana Everett Sanchez and to her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren for being with her these recent months to help her days be happier. Also a special thank you to Cathy Lozano for always being there for the family.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel, 549 Cheyenne St., on Wednesday, February 10th, 2016 from 5-9pm with a rosary at 7pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, February 11th, at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 710 S. 19th with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetary.
