Velma Joyce Rice

Joyce graduated from Bishop High School in 1961, she also married the love of her life Robert Lee Rice Sr. om December 30th 1961 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bishop, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Robert Lee Rice Sr; parents Werner and Lula Mae Mickan; and brothers Robert Mickan and Richard Mickan.

She is survived by her sons Robert Lee Rice Jr and Randy Allan Rice; brother Roger Mickan (Kathi) ; and sister Judy Thomas (Jimmy); she also leaves behind grandchildren Cory Allen Rice, Allyssa Rice, and Jessica Cooper; and great grandchild Everett Cooper.

She was a proud member of the Galilean Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School there for many years. She also would volunteer at the Driscoll's Children Hospital, League of Women Voters, and was very active in Girl Scouts with her God Daughter.

Joyce loved to travel, loved her flower garden, collecting angels, collecting dolls and beanie babies, and loved to ride the carousel. She would host the best birthday parties and family get togethers. She will always be remembered for dressing well and modest and her delicious and amazing cooking.

The family would like to thank Angel Bright Hospice and Cimarron Place Nursing Home. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please make donations to the Driscoll's Children Hospital.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Mickan, Ricky Mickan, Jason Thomas, Justin Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, and Steven Lockhart.

A visitation will be held on January 14, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, located at 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415.

The funeral service will follow on the same day, January 14, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the same location.

A committal service is scheduled for January 14, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home.
