Vera Irene Milks

Born on December 29, 1939, in Bloomfield, Indiana, Vera was the beloved daughter of the late Ora and Winifred Dowden. She graduated from Bicknell High School before continuing her education at Vincennes University.

On December 15, 1962, Vera married the love of her life, Ivan Rex Fisher, in Lawrenceville, Indiana. Together they built a loving family and shared many happy years until Ivan's passing. Vera was later blessed to find love again and spent the last 21 years of her life with her devoted husband, Charles T. Milks.

Vera enjoyed a long and dedicated career at the Corpus Christi Army Depot, where she faithfully served until her retirement in 1997. She was a proud and active member of Yorktown Baptist Church, where her faith guided her throughout her life.

Family was the center of Vera's world. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose kindness, strength, unwavering faith, and generous heart touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Vera had a passion for reading, tending to her garden, and traveling with her beloved husband, Chuck, exploring different states and countries together. Above all, she treasured every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She loved hosting family pizza parties, always ordering a supreme pizza and laughing as everyone picked off the toppings they didn't want. One of her sweetest traditions was running down the sidewalk, waving until everyone was out of sight as they headed home. Sundays were especially dear to her heart. She looked forward to family lunches gathered around the table, where stories were shared, laughter filled the room, and Vera's remarkable memory amazed everyone. She could recall every detail and always had another story to tell. One of her favorite places to eat was Long John Silver's, a simple pleasure she always enjoyed.

Vera was deeply devoted to her faith. She faithfully served through Yorktown Baptist Church, generously giving her time to help others and participating in prison ministry, where she shared God's love with those in need. Her favorite Bible passage was John 14:1–3, a source of comfort and hope throughout her life. She also found great inspiration in the beloved poem, Footprints in the Sand.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, Ora and Winifred Dowden; her sister, Lois Gertrude; her brother, Hershell Dowden; her husband, Ivan Rex Fisher; her stepdaughter, Debbie Dodson; and her step-granddaughter, Stacy Dodson.

She is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Charles T. Milks; her children, Randy Fisher (Debbie), Brenda Blackman (David), Todd Fisher (Kristie), and Roy Selby; her grandchildren, Jessica Munoz (Marcos), Kasey Fisher, Chelsey Alley (Brian), Brittany Blackmon Blank, and Amber Mendez (Anthony); and her cherished great-grandchildren, Gabe, Landon, Ava, Addy, Caleb, Maddox, Elliott, Charlotte, Owen, Brody, Olivia, and Sofia.

She is also survived by her stepchildren, Charles Lawrence Milks (Mary) and Thomas Milks (Kim); her step-granddaughter, Michelle Dodson Smith (Brad), and their daughter, Riley; her step-grandchildren, Kristina Tardif (Sean), Stephanie Flores, Crystal Hohl (Jeff), Candice Moreland (Chris), and Sarah Milks; her step-great-grandchildren, Charles, Mathew, Timothy, Bryce, Olivia, Connor, Mia, and Rory; and her step-great-great-granddaughter, Emelyn.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Brookdale Senior Living, Marisol with Elara Caring Hospice, and Nurse Claudius Alexander from Bay Area Hospital for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Vera during her final days. Your compassion will never be forgotten.

Vera's legacy is one of faith, devotion, hard work, compassion, and unconditional love. Her gentle spirit, joyful laughter, and unwavering love for her family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Though she has left this earthly home, we rejoice in God's promise that she is at peace in His presence, and we look forward to the day we will see her again.

Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, on July 20, 2026, at 10:00 am, followed by a Funeral Service at the same location on July 20, 2026, at 11:30 am.

A Rite of Committal and Entombment will take place at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415, on July 20, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
