Wanda Lynn Merritt, 64, passed away surrounded by family on August 5, 2025 in Corpus Christi, TX. She was born October 5, 1960 in Mexico, Missouri to the late Margie and Claude Higbee. Wanda grew up and graduated high school in Kingsville, TX.
Wanda was a devoted wife, mother, Mimi, sister and Aunt to so many in the family. Her love for maternal and paternal family was never ending. She was so proud of her daughters and grandchildren that affectionately called her Mimi. Wanda made a special effort to be present for every family event, school function, game or celebration; showing up with love, support, and usually a camera in hand. Her presence made every moment more meaningful.
Wanda found beauty in life’s little things like sunflowers reaching for the sky, heart-shaped rocks discovered on walks, and the perfect moment captured behind her camera lens. She loved baking cookies for family and friends, always making sure everyone had a sweet treat and a warm memory to take home. Gift-giving was her love language; thoughtful, personal, and always from the heart. Her joy came from spreading joy, and she lived each day with kindness, creativity, and deep love for those around her.
Wanda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Margie and Claude Higbee.
She is survived by her husband, Glen Merritt; daughters, Amanda (Casey) Strickland, Stephanie (Caleb) Wright, Courtney (Colton) Gatlin; grandchildren, Hatley, Scarlett, Ember, Blake, Bennett; sister, Sandy (Vance) Sherrod; brother, Larry (Mary Jeanne) Higbee; and many other family and friends who will sadly miss her.”
A visitation for Wanda will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415 with a prayer service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
