Zoila S. Hernandez, age 94, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025.
Born on January 21, 1931, Zoila lived a full and vibrant life centered around faith, family, and friendship. Her Sundays were her favorite — beginning with church, where she found joy and strength in her faith, and often followed by time spent with friends sharing laughter, stories, and a few drinks.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Zoila’s greatest pride and joy was her family. She was a doting mom and grandma whose love and warmth filled every room she entered. Her home was a gathering place for generations, where she cooked with love — especially her famous tamales and molé — and created memories that will be cherished forever.
Known for her lively spirit and big heart, Zoila was truly the life of every gathering. She loved to dance (especially with the love of her life, Candy), laugh, and celebrate the simple joys of life with those she loved most. Her kindness, sense of humor, and ability to make everyone feel welcome will never be forgotten.
Zoila is survived by her children, Maria Teresa (Heriberto) Caldera (9), Richard Albert “Beto” Garcia (5), Martin S. Garcia (7), as well as many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who adored her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florencio Salinas and Florencia Garcia; her beloved husband, Candelario "Candy" Hernandez; her sons, Manuelo Salinas, Arnoldo "Nono" Hernandez, and Joe Hernandez; and her daughter, Mary Hernandez.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Viewing will begin at 5:00 pm with Rosary to begin at 7:00pm and a prayer service to follow. Burial will be Friday, November 14, 2025 at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Continued visitation will be at 10:00am and Prayer service will begin at 12:00 pm with burial to follow. Family and friends are invited to gather afterward to share stories, food, and memories — just as Zoila would have wanted.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at rest, watching over them with love — her spirit forever dancing, laughing, and guiding them through life.
