Dean was born on January 22, 1942 in Chesterhill, Ohio to the late John W. and Lena Faye Woodward. Dean was a graduate of the 1960 class of Medina High School. Dean served in the United States Air Forces from 1959, until he was honorably discharged in 1968. On September 2, 1961, Dean married Jewel May. For many years, he worked as a heavy equipment operator and as a farmer. Dean liked birdwatching and was an avid hunter. He also loved to watch Western movies. He was a very social person; he never met a stranger. Dean was also an importer and breeder of Haflinger horses, which he showed all over North America. He was also a founder of the Ohio Haflinger Association, the Northern Ohio Draft Pony Association, as well as the Haflinger Registry of North America, of which he served as registrar.
Along with his wife, Dean is survived by his three children: Melissa (Bob) Shanahan, Deanna (Tom) Woodward Wells, and Mike (Jacque) Woodward; eighteen grandchildren: Jessica (Cambell) Parrish, Katlyn, Lesley, Randy (Bridget)Wells, Douglas Hummell, Danielle, Christopher, Connor, Cassadee, Devon, Caroline, Collin, Dillon, Dennis, Eric, Moo Moo, Johnathan, and Ty; four step-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members.
Funeral services for Dean will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Eggan officiating. The Coshocton County Honor Guard will perform military honors prior to the funeral service. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
