David Smailes

David L. Smailes, 62, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2011, at his residence, with his family by his side. He was born in Coshocton, Ohio, on November 28, 1948, the son of the late Lorain Smailes, and Dora (Hutchison) Smailes of Coshocton, Ohio. Dave graduated from River View High School in 1966, and then served in the United States Army, where he served in the infantry for a year in Vietnam during the war. After the War, Dave returned to Coshocton, where he began his Banking career, which spanned 40 years in the community at First National Bank, Home Loan and Savings Bank, and presently at Century National Bank in Coshocton. Dave was a member of Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, Gideon’s International, a long time member of the VIP Golf League, and a former member of the Coshocton Kiwanis Club. On April 12, 1968, he married Jennifer (Wright) Smailes, who survives. He is also survived by his children, Jeffrey (Megan) Smailes, Jodi (Tom) McCarthy, and Jill (Josh) Miller all of Coshocton; grandchildren, Kaitie, Sydnee, John, Shaylynn, Sean, Samantha, Kamryn, Daniel, Janele, Alex, and Brady; his sister, Elizabeth (Chuck) Cannon of Fallsburg, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held in the Sanctuary of the Coshocton Christian Tabernacle, Airport Rd., Coshocton, Ohio, on Thursday, June 30, 2011, at 11:00am, with Pastors Dan Keaton, Jason Diaz, Phil Spriggs, and Sonny Easterday officiating. Burial will follow in Coshocton Co. Memory Gardens, where the Coshocton Co. Veteran’s Council will conduct graveside military services. The family will greet friends and neighbors at the Coshocton Christian Tabernacle on Wednesday, June 29, 2011, from 2 to 4, and 6 to 8pm.
