Della Ferrell

Della Elizabeth Ferrell, age 88, of Coshocton, passed on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Riverside Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Newcomerstown. She was born November 15, 1926, in Chillicothe, Ohio and was the daughter of John and Hazel (Brannan) Bendure.

She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and Zanesville’s Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. She practiced as an RN at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital, Bethesda Hospital, Chillicothe General Hospital, The Ross County Department of Health, The Muskingum County Department of Health, and then back at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital in 1961. After 46 years in nursing, she retired in 1994.

On May 25, 1947, she married Dalton Eugene Ferrell who preceded her in death on July 22, 2006, after 59 years of marriage.

Della is survived by a son, Gene (Betsy) Ferrell of Marietta; four daughters, Marty (Dean Myron) Leas of West Lafayette, Barbara Mainwaring of Coshocton, Bonnie (Joe) Gerardi of Columbus, and Elaine (Rocky) Smith of Coshocton; 12 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Virginia King of Coshocton and Anna Margaret Russell of Orlando, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Charles Ferrell of Dresden and Reverend William Babb of Marion, Indiana; and many niec es and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Mary Catherine Babb and Anna Ruth Gire; a brother Everett Lawrence Bendure; and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Della’s large family was very dear to her as was the practice of nursing. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.

Per Della’s wishes, a cremation will take place. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015, from 4-7:00 pm at Given-Dawson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015, at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Gene Ferrell officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
