Harry Richard Bordenkircher

Harry Richard “Rich” Bordenkircher, age 93, of Coshocton, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Monday, May 4, 2026. He was born on May 30, 1932, in Coshocton to the late Harry C. and Regina (Royer) Bordenkircher.

Rich graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School and joined the Ohio Army National Guard. He was activated for active duty. There, he served as a member of the 82d Reconnaissance Battalion in the US Army of Occupation in Germany, where he received the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. At the conclusion of his tour in Germany, Rich returned to the Ohio National Guard, where he served a career of three decades and achieved the grade of First Sergeant responsible for the Coshocton National Guard Armory operations until he transitioned from the National Guard and continued to serve his community, leading the Street Department for his hometown, Coshocton, until he retired.

Rich was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also an active member of the Coshocton Elks, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, and the American Legion. Rich was a passionate golfer, could be found regularly at play on the courses at River Greens, Hilltop, and many others, including an annual trip on which he’d hitch a ride on a private plane with Coshocton friends and business associates to play at an annual golf tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Rich was a regular at his daily coffee club rendezvous with friends at McDonald’s and other Coshocton establishments over the years.

On June 20, 1981, he married Marilyn (Schumaker) Bordenkircher, who passed away on August 21, 2012. Rich is survived by two sisters, Mary Lou McCabe of Coshocton and Arlene (Doug) Glazier of Ft Myers, Florida, and at least 9 nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, James Bordenkircher, and brother-in-law, Dave McCabe.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 am with Father Brian Beal officiating. Burial will be held at South Lawn Cemetery.
