Helen was born on September 3rd, 1936, in Wadsworth, Ohio, to Helen and Michael Motzko. An honor student at Wadsworth High School, she later attended Ohio Wesleyan University, majoring in education, and graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor of Science in Primary Education in 1960.
She moved to Coshocton in 1964, and once her children reached school age, she resumed her teaching career at Lincoln Elementary School in 1970. After thirty years of service teaching 3rd and 4th grade at Lincoln, she retired in 2000 having received a distinguished teacher grant from the Ohio State Board of Education as well as serving as President of the Coshocton chapter of the Ohio Education Association. Helen taught nearly a thousand students in Coshocton during her many years in education, and was known for her uncompromising standards, encouragement and compassion.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Walter Andrews. She is survived by her son Matthew, of Nashville, Tennessee, her son Michael, of New York City, and grand-daughter Ada Helen Andrews, also of New York City.
Services will be held at the Given Dawson Funeral Home in Coshocton on Saturday, July 27th. There will be an informal gathering from 11am-12pm for any and all whose lives were touched by Helen, followed by a celebration of Helen’s life at 12pm.
