James H. Aronhalt, 95, of Coshocton, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Coshocton Health Care Center. He was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, on July 1, 1916, the son of the late Harold B. and Winifred D. (Stiner) Aronhalt. Jim graduated from Keene High School in 1934, and was employed for 27 years at the St. Regis Paper Co. in Coshocton, retiring in 1979. He was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church since 1937, was a member of the Bethlehem Grange since 1937, and a lifelong member of the Class of Hope. Jim was an avid sportsman, enjoying golf, horse shoes, and bowling. In 1933 he won the county baseball championship for Keene, and then later played baseball for the Indianapolis Indians. In 1934 he won the county basketball championship for Keene. Jim also enjoyed playing softball, playing for Darrs Pure Oil, and Carnation. Jim enjoyed scooping ice cream at the Prairie Chapel Ice Cream Socials, and making apple butter. On October 13, 1940, he married Leota M. (Shaw) Aronhalt, who preceded him in death on January 11, 1984. He is survived by two children, Jerry (Lynn Karr) Aronhalt of Conesville, Ohio, and Kay Lynn Moran of Zanesville, Ohio; daughter-in-law Sherry Aronhalt of Warsaw, Ohio; his 11 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Aronhalt of Coshocton, Ohio, and Otis Ray “Jack” Aronhalt of Coshocton, Ohio; three sisters, Gertrude Stewart of Coshocton, Ohio, Helen Totten of Walhonding, Ohio, and Shirley (Bill) Wilson of Coshocton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his son, James Aronhalt; sisters, Catherine Spang, Leona Reigle, and Maxine Kohl; son-in-law E. Leroy Moran; five brothers-in-law; and 2 sisters-in-law. A funeral service will be held at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 2:00pm with Rev. Everett Stoddard officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends and neighbors at Given-Dawson Funeral Home, 186 Park Ave., Coshocton, Ohio, on Friday, July 15, 2011, from 5 to 8pm.
