
Joann Lee Starcher of Coshocton, 86, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015. She was born April 6, 1929 to William A. and Bernice (Strouse) Lockard. Joann graduated from Coshocton High School in 1947 and then continued her education at Rio Grande College where she graduated in 1949. Throughout her life, she worked at Shaw Barton, Times Mirror Cable, and Ansell Edmont in Coshocton.
Joann loved horses, playing golf, cards, country music, and the ocean. She loved to dress fashionably and was known for donning unique hats for special occasions. Joann was also able to enjoy a horseback riding during the summer of 2014 for her 85th birthday.
From her first marriage to Ernest H. Cochran, Joann had four children, Elaine Lee, Jennifer Sue, Mitchell Ray, and Deborah Lynn. On December 13, 1964, Joann married Robert S. Starcher, who preceded her in death in 1996. Joann was also preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Debbie Cochran Barrett and granddaughter Rachel Saleh.
Joann is survived by her loving, faithful companion; William “Bill” G. Oswald, Sr. She said that “Living with Bill had been a comfortable life. He has been good to me.” Bill was a blessing the entire family. Joann and Bill shared the love of their canine companion, Chantilly. Bill has three sons and daughters-in-law: Bill and Cheryl, Jeff and Sue, and David and Becky.
Joann is survived by three children, Mitchell R. Cochran of Dresden, Elaine Flowers of Mt. Vernon, and Jenny (Dennis) Porcher of Heath; her sister, Pat Valliquette of Gnadenhutten; nephews Mike, Greg, and Joel Cochran; sisters-in-law Ethel Hawkins and Donna (Cliff) Denning; 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild who lovingly knew her as “Grandma, GG, or Starcher.”
Formerly a member of the First Baptist Church, Joann was recently a member of the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton, where she and Bill enjoyed Sunday evening bible studies.
Private family services will be held per Joann’s request at Given-Dawson Funeral Home with Reverend Jonathan Carlisle officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to Health Services-Hospice of Coshocton County and to the Presbyterian Church on 142 N. 4th St of Coshocton.
