Mildred H Ankrum

July 24, 1928November 22, 2018

Mildred “Millie” H. Ankrum, 90, of Easley, SC, passed away on November 22, 2018.

Millie was a hardworking, caring, loving wife, mother and friend and she never met a person she didn’t want to hug. Millie was born on July 24, 1928 in Toledo, OH; the youngest of five children born to Margaret A. (Klingbile) Clinger and Donald Clinger. At only 2.7 lbs., she wasn’t expected to live, but she was a fighter and she thrived. Even though life was not easy she persevered. Millie loved to work and meet people. She was an excellent executive secretary and worked many places honing her skill. She retired from Kaiser Aluminum after 24 years where she worked in Toledo, and Newark Ohio making many friends. She became restless upon retiring and began a second career as evening school secretary at JVS in Coshocton for 13 years. She loved meeting and becoming friends with all the students and staff. Upon retiring from JVS she still longed to get out and meet people and one of the former students suggested she come work for Bob Evans with her. Millie loved greeting, serving, and becoming friends with many of the customers for the 8 years that she worked for Bob Evans, but she had to retire when her beloved husband, George Ankrum, became gravely ill. Millie had met the love of her life, George, in 1964 while roller skating with her three children. It didn’t take long for them to fall in love and decide to marry on January 9, 1965. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before George passed on March 1, 2015. Millie loved living at Wills Creek. She and George called it Shangri-La. They loved roller-skating, dancing, hunting and fixing up their home. They lived there until George passed and she moved to be close to her children. She lived with her daughter, Linda, and son, Charles, enjoying her time with their families.

Mildred is survived by her children: Linda (Gary) Glave of Toledo, Charles (Chris) Hammond of Easley, SC and Scott (CJ) Hammond of Coshocton. Meme, as she was also known, has five grand-children who survive: Kevin (Erin) Glave, Callie (Barry) Hornbacher, Cristal Hammond, Catrina (Tim) Kennedy, and Cortnie Hammond; six great-grandchildren: Brooklyn and Arian Glave, Jakob, Ryan and Charlie Kennedy and Dwayne (D.J.) Kinsey and one unborn great-grandson, Deon Kinsey.

Along with her beloved George, Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, step-father, Walter Perry, and four siblings: Charles and Edward Clinger, Ruth Hart and Lillian Hatfield.

Funeral services will be held at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home on Saturday, December1, 2018 at 1pm. Burial will follow at Coshocton County Memory Gardens. There will be calling hours prior to the funeral on Saturday from 11am-1 pm.
