

Milton David Blatt, loving husband and devoted father, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, in San Dimas, California. Born on Kelleys Island, Ohio, on September 13, 1918, he was a resident of Southern California since 1944. A 1942 graduate of Ohio State University, he retired as a physicist from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Pasadena in 1973. He jointly held several patents for rocket nose cone designs. He served six months in Vietnam in 1968-1969 as a liaison to the Vietnamese Naval Research Laboratory in DaNang. His interests were led by the love of his family and friends, a longtime Boy Scout committee member and merit badge counselor for Covina Troop 443, Dodger Baseball, Ohio State sports fan, and especially he was an avid birder. Milt was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Jane Deeley Blatt; a brother, William Blatt; two sisters, Vyrl Koenigseker and Norma McKillips; a brother-in-law, William R. Deeley; daughter-in-law, Yoko Blatt; son-in-law, Richard Ybanez; and grandson, Justin Blatt. Milt is survived by special friend Miriam Temple; sister, Dorothea Sprau of Sandusky; brother, Ted Blatt of Kelleys Island; sons Ben Blatt of Hilo, Hawaii, and Bill (Cheryl) Blatt of Coshocton; daughter, Sally Temple of Brea, California; sister-in-law, Shirley E. Deeley; godson, William R. (Carolyn) Deeley II of Richmond, Virginia; four grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is planned on August 8, 2012 on Kelleys Island.
