On July 8, 1966, he married Cynthia Jane (Jorgensen) Bassett, who preceded him in death on March 19, 2019.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force with honor and dedication. Following his military service, he built a successful career as an electrician, including many years with Stone Creek Brick Company. A true jack of all trades, Richard possessed a remarkable talent for mechanics and welding and could fix just about anything he set his mind to. He had a lifelong love of cars and was a devoted NASCAR fan. Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his son, Jamie (Shelly Everhart) Bassett of West Lafayette; his grandson, Kyle (Gayle) Bassett; his great-grandchildren, Marlee, Steele, Finlee, and Baron; and his brother, Dale (Linda) Bassett of Coshocton, along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard is preceded in death by his brothers, Robert, George, and Russell “Dusty” Bassett.
Per Richard’s wishes, a cremation will take place. Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
