

Sherman Robert “Pete” Gallagher, age 85, of Coshocton, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026. He was born on December 28, 1940, in Coshocton County to the late Edward Charles and Lena May (Greenwood) Gallagher.
In April of 1968, he married Shirley Jane (Wolfe) Gallagher who survives. Pete worked for National Car Leasing, Coshocton Iron & Metal and for William Albert Excavating Inc. before retiring.
Pete enjoyed the outdoors; fishing, camping and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed working on his cars, gardening and being with his dogs.
Along with his wife Shirley, Pete is survived by his children, Carol (Jeremy Wood) Hammond-Wood, Cheryl Lewis, Sherman L. “Boomer” (Holli) Gallagher and Steven E. “Sam” Gallagher. Grandchildren, Russell (Allison) Hammond Jr., Richard Justin Hammond, Brianna Wood, Steven Lewis, Ryan (Jessica) Lewis, Jerin (Brandi) McCormick, Daniel Reidenbach and Isiah Hershberger. Great-grandchildren, Britany, Gage, Lilyanna, Mariah, Marisa, Myles, Landon, Amaya, Emersyn, Colin, Jax, Kaylynn and Tyra; two sisters, Freda Holsclaw and Goldie Heck; and several nieces and nephews.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents, his two sons, Robert J. Gallagher and Francis R. Middaugh, grandson, Calen Wood and siblings, Joseph, Wilbur, James, Charles, and Thurman Gallagher, Janice Reigle, Sally McPherson, Shirley Gallagher, Ethel Lautenschlager, and Marjorie Brock.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00pm with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Burial will be held at Coshocton County Memory Gardens.
