Ann Janette O'Flynn

Ann was a true Southern California girl born in the Naval base in Long Beach to Mary McLaughlin and Ennis Worsham on January 7, 1936. Ann and her family bounced around a lot in her early years due to her father’s naval service. Eventually, she ended up in Newport Beach. Ann was fond of riding horses: including rides along 17th St. over to the Back Bay of Newport Harbor. After Ann graduated from Newport Harbor High School, she attended the San Diego College for Women, which eventually became the University of San Diego.

Before Ann taught at Immaculate Heart Catholic School in Santa Ana, she worked at Waltah Clark’s Hawaiian Shop in Laguna Beach and The Jolly Roger Ice Cream Shop on Balboa Island. After years of working hard and saving money, she purchased her first of many real estate investments, a house on Newport Island. She soon met John O’Flynn, and they would marry on New Year’s Eve in 1966. They moved to Santa Ana Heights (currently called Equestrian Estates in Newport Beach) after several years at the beach so she could own, raise and show Peruvian Paso horses. She successfully imported one of the first Peruvian Paso horses to the US, a mare named Ima Sumac. She won multiple awards showing Ima Sumac and successfully raised multiple offspring.

Although she was raising a large family, Ann was a great entrepreneur who bought and sold multiple houses and properties. Ann played real “Monopoly” by leveraging small homes, selling those homes at a profit and eventually owning and operating an impressive real estate portfolio.

Her greatest joy was her family. Ann and John raised five wonderful children: Michael, Mary, Kathleen, Christina and Maureen. She was an incredible mother who was constantly running her kids to various school and sporting events, drama productions, Girl Scouts and other activities. She was a very welcoming mother, who always had an extra seat at the dinner table for friends and family. She served up a very popular chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy every Sunday - a fan favorite that became legendary.

Ann was a devout Catholic, who was deeply devoted to her faith and attended the Traditional Latin Mass for many years. She was a great supporter of traditional Catholic causes, especially education and vocations.

After many years in Santa Ana Heights, Ann and John moved back to the beach, purchasing a home in Balboa Coves. There they enjoyed taking out their Duffy boat with family and friends. Ann was an incredible hostess at the Balboa Coves home and served up countless dinners and hosted epic Christmas parties. When the hosting became too much, Ann enjoyed sitting on the couch watching the boats go by.

Ann and John traveled the world, including multiple trips to Ireland and Hawaii. One of Ann’s favorite trips was their cruise around Tahiti.

Ann lived a wonderful life of over 90 years and will be remembered for her quiet generosity, business acumen, strong faith and deep love for the people in her life. To all who knew her, she brought great joy, laughter and a genuine sense of welcome.

Ann is survived by her husband John, her sister Marlena Beveridge, all of her children and her grandchildren: Caitlin, Alexander, Andrew, John Finbar, Kieran, Sinead and Liam.

A Rosary will be held at Harbor Lawn Mortuary, Costa Mesa on September 7, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Costa Mesa on September 8, 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

Graveside services will be held on September 8, 2026 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM.
