Anne Marie Sullivan

Anne Marie Sullivan, formerly of Carlsbad, California, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2026. Born Anne Marie LaFave on December 27, 1970, in Costa Mesa, California, Anne was a standout student at Estancia High School in Orange County, California.

At 18 years old, Anne joined the United States Navy, beginning what would become a long and accomplished career in Air Traffic Control. Her career began in Guam, where she worked in ATC. She was later stationed at Point Mugu Naval Air Station before continuing her career with the Department of Defense (DOD). After her time with the DOD, Anne joined the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), working at the Van Nuys Air Traffic Control Tower in California and later at Southern California TRACON in San Diego, California.

Anne was dedicated to her career and continued her education throughout her life. She completed her degree at the University of La Verne and went on to earn a Master’s Degree.

Through her hard work and dedication, Anne became a supervisor and later Tower Manager of the Carlsbad Air Traffic Tower. Her career was an important part of her life, and she took great pride in the work she accomplished and the people she worked alongside.

Outside of her career, Anne loved to travel and experience new places. She enjoyed biking in France and loved skiing. These adventures and experiences were a special part of her life and created memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Anne was preceded in death by her mother, Karen Darcangelo LaFave, and her father, Richard (Rick) LaFave.

She is survived by her daughter, Sierra Leonard; her sister, Angela Rickard; and her nephews, Noah and Jacob, all of Orange County, California.

Anne leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her and in the many lives she touched throughout her journey.

Anne will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego, California.
