Obituary of Carmen Maria Sanders
IN THE CARE OF

Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Mortuary & Memorial Park

Carmen Maria Sanders, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and treasured friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 79, surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace that will be remembered always.

Born in Puerto Rico to Lorenzo and Bernalda Lassalle, Carmen was the youngest daughter of eight siblings. She carried the vibrant spirit and enduring strength of her heritage throughout her life. Her early years were grounded in family and a deep sense of purpose that guided her throughout her journey.

Carmen met the father of her daughters while living in Indiana and later moved to California, where she spent over 37 years building a life in Oakland. Her home there became a haven of warmth, welcome, and quiet strength—a true cornerstone for her family and friends.

She dedicated much of her career to medical administration, where her compassion, precision, and behind-the-scenes dedication ensured others received the care they needed. She brought dignity and excellence to all she did.

Carmen was the proud and loving mother of two daughters, Illona Sanders and Inga Sanders-Marcereau (Rob Marcereau), and a devoted grandmother to Adrian and Alexis Banks, and Dylan and Connor Marcereau. Her nurturing spirit and steady support were the heart of her family.

She was also deeply loved by her many nieces, nephews, and close friends, who knew her as a woman of quiet strength, generosity, and warmth. An exceptional cook, Carmen’s famous red beans and rice brought joy to countless gatherings and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of sitting at her table.

Carmen’s life was marked by love, service, and grace. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
