Our beloved mother, Chiquita “Chickie” Sipos, passed away in Orange County on September 17, 2021 at the age of 82.
She was born on April 21. 1939 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the 4th of 12 children.
Chickie was married to Raymond Sipos and they had 3 daughters together- Sandy, Stephanie, and Sheri. When Chickie and Raymond divorced in 1969, Chickie became a single mother raising 3 young daughters. She moved her family to South Pasadena and lived there for the rest of her life.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Cal State Los Angeles and a B.S.I. and Juris Doctorate from Glendale University, College of Law.
Chickie started her correctional career in 1961, working for the Los Angeles County Probation Department. She spent 32 years working for the California Youth Authority as a parole agent, community services consultant, project director, and a Prevention and Victims Services Specialist. She was a board member of the American Correctional Association. She also served as president of the California Probation, Parole, and Correctional Association. With her extensive knowledge and background of the juvenile justice system, Chickie earned the confidence and respect of many professionals and high level justice system officials including judges, chief probation officers, and key law enforcement personnel. She was an important link in the juvenile justice system and her legacy continued to motivate those who came into contact with her. Chickie stood for justice and fairness, and she practiced kindness and caring even when she had to be tough to get things done.
Chickie was EVERYONE's favorite person because she brightened up every corner of the world she was in. She had a love of travel and traveled to many countries throughout her life with her family and many friends. She traveled to many countries including Thailand, the Philippines, Russia, Peru, Mexico, the Caribbean, and throughout Europe, as well as many trips to Hawaii, Michigan, and Las Vegas. Wherever she traveled she would make new friends. She touched every one’e heart she ever met.
Chickie was loved by all who knew her and she had many friends. Above all else, she was a wonderful mother. grandmother, and sister. We each know how deeply she loved us and we are thankful for all of the years we were blessed to have her. She will be missed each and every day, but she will always be in our hearts.
Surviving family member include her daughters: Sandy King, Stephanie Maurer, and Sheri Sipos, her siblings: Marquita Molina, Marcy Angeles, Estralita Hickson, Gregory Angeles, and Antoinette Arcala, her grandchildren: Kendra, Stacy, Trevor, Tyler, and Sydni, and many other relatives she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, 6 of her siblings, and her grand-daughter, Kelsey.
Services are scheduled for Tuesday, October 19 at Holy Family Church in South Pasadena.
