A lifelong resident of CA passed away on Friday 1/21/2011. He suffered a heart attack while hiking in Palm Desert.
Dan was 70.
Dan was born in 1940, in the city of Glendale to parents Gale and John Woodward. He was the 3rd of 4 children. He loved exploring the local mountains and caring for the family’s cats, dogs and horses as a young boy. His family moved often, from homes in the deserts of Riverside County to the coasts of Orange County. He attended Eagle Rock High School where he enjoyed being on the pole-vaulting team and he graduated at age 16 years.
Dan served in the US Army at the Pentagon. He received his BA in Political Science and Business Administration at Long Beach State University. He learned plumbing and construction from working with his Dad and brothers. Dan was only 18 years old, when he built his first house. He remodeled two more homes over the years, and built 2 boats. He worked in the aerospace industry where he met and married his wife of over 43 years, Patricia June. They lived in San Juan Capistrano where they started their family. He later moved his family to the Central Valley where he had bought a small farm. He shared his love for the outdoors with his family; taking many camping, boating and road trips to the local sierras and coastal sites. He worked for many years in the grain industry; in the latter years traveling the world in equipment sales.
Dan’s favorite activities were: golf, eclectic music, electric trains, biking, history, reading and democracy. Patsy was the love of his life; while the 28 year relationship with his beloved Troller was his passion.
Dan is survived by wife, Patricia; daughter, Shelly; son, Allen; brother Woody; sister, Sharon; brother, Ron (pre-deceased), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangements under the direction of Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary, Costa Mesa, CA.
