Danny Provenza Sr., age 80, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2026. Known affectionately as Dad, “Big Danny,” “Big D,” Uncle Dan, Papa, and Great-Papa, Danny embraced every title he earned—including the colorful ones better left unmentioned—with a trademark grin.
Born in Lincoln Heights, CA, on May 31, 1945, to Saro and Carrie (Spicola) Provenza, Danny lived a life defined by laughter, immense generosity, and a deep, protective love for his family.
In his younger years, Danny took great pride in operating the family meat business, carrying on a tradition of hard work and dedication. He later spent 20 years as a bus mechanic for the Walnut Valley Unified School District. While he was highly skilled with a wrench, he was even better known for his humor, constantly keeping his coworkers on their toes with his playful ribbing and quick wit.
Danny was a man of grand gestures and a one-of-a-kind personality. He lived life in his own style, whether he was cruising the coast in his Corvette or Cadillac, or traveling state-to-state to stay in the finest hotels. He had a gift for turning strangers into friends, engaging anyone within earshot in conversation and sharing stories, history, and wisdom as a self-appointed tour guide.
His generosity and love for the thrill of the game were legendary. Whether he was playing Keno, chasing the next big Lotto win, or sitting at the table for a game of 21, Danny lived for the excitement. He often flipped a coin for "double or nothing" to tip a waitress a hundred-dollar bill, or handed out cash at the casino so those with him could play right along with him. He appreciated the finer things—a meal at a world-class restaurant or a trip to Las Vegas—but he found equal peace in the simple joy of a good cup of coffee and some "Don-Dons" (donuts) in the sunshine.
Above all, family was his greatest pride. He was the beloved father of Annette Temple (Dean) and Danny Provenza Jr. (Tracee), and is survived by the mother of his children, Maria Provenza. Danny also cherished his many years with his long-time companion, Susan Craig. He truly adored Susan and her children—Jason, Tara, and Rob—and loved the time and memories they built together.
He was a doting grandfather to Antoinette, Nikolett, Vinny, Tabitha, Michael, and Nikita, and a devoted great-grandfather to Annabella, Aleyah, Waylon, Emmalynn, Everly, and Brayden. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life; he cherished every moment spent with them, especially the "little ear-lobelers" he loved to squeeze. He made sure every child left him with "WAM" (walk-around money) and the knowledge that they were deeply loved.
Danny is also survived by his siblings, Dorothy Pantleo and Sam Provenza, and a large, vibrant family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry on his jokes and his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Saro Provenza and Carrie Spicola Provenza; his sisters, Annie Rosetti, Virginia McCubbin, and Rosellen Lemento; and his niece, Ann Marie Provenza.
Danny will be missed for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering loyalty, and the way he made everyone feel included and valued. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and the reminder to always enjoy the ride.
