

Edmund Charles Vallez, age 66 (1955-2022), passed away peacefully at Fountain Valley Hospital, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 after a lengthy hospital stay due to two strokes. He was a lifelong teacher of 30 years in Orange County, working at Edison, Jefferson Elementary Schools and Carr Junior High School for several years, Santa Ana, Garden Grove, and Magnolia School Districts. Ed also enjoyed working as an ESL teacher at night, in a group home for foster kids and was a certified Drug/Alcohol Counselor. He also worked part time for Anaheim Parks and Recreation. He graduated with a B.A. from UC Irvine, with a Psychology degree in 1983. He also received his Master’s Degree at Cal State, Long Beach in Educational Administration, 2002. As an educator he stated, “I enjoy working with students of all ages and have a great interest in educating and teaching them how to make the right choices.”
As a child, he traveled to Teheran/Iran, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland. Ed’s father traveled the world for his job, as a petro chemical engineer, and would often take the family. As an adult Ed visited Europe backpacking and Venezuela, Dominican Republic with his father.
He is survived by his three children, Katherine Larkee (Jacob), Thomas Vallez, Eric Vallez, Eric’s half sister Carly Zamora and two grandchildren, Levi and Allison Larkee. He is also survived by his sister Suzanne Vallez, brother Jak Vallez (Nancy), Aunt Carole Vallez, Aunt and Godmother Connie Gallegos, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ed was welcomed into heaven by his mother, Bessie Mojica Vallez, father, Henry Flores Vallez and brother Francis Xavier Vallez.
Ed will always be remembered as having a great sense of humor and telling 3rd grade jokes. He loved and grew succulents to sell with son Eric. He was very athletic in his youth, from riding his bike everywhere to being a member of the UCI Track Team. What a Lakers, Angels, and Celtics fan he was. He will be greatly missed by his friends, family, teachers, students, neighbors and all who loved him.
Services are Friday, February 4th, 5:00 – 9:00pm for Visitation/Rosary at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive chapel, 1625 Gisler St, Costa Mesa.
Saturday, February 5th for the Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Simon & Jude Catholic Church in Huntington Beach, 20444 Magnolia St., Huntington Beach, CA. Graveside Ceremony/Burial, 11:30am - noon at Harbor Lawn Mt. Olive Cemetery, Costa Mesa. Reception to follow immediately after services.
