

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Gary John Perez on January 14, 2025, at the age of 68. A proud Californian, Gary was born in Newport Beach on March 17, 1956, and he lived his entire life in the welcoming community of Costa Mesa.
During his formative years in high school, Gary developed a passion for both football and wrestling, excelling in both sports and earning first-team all-league honors. These athletic pursuits not only showcased his dedication and talent but also allowed him to build enduring friendships that would last a lifetime.
After graduating, Gary continued his education, proudly becoming an alumnus of Costa Mesa High School and later Orange Coast College. He chose to major in art, where he unleashed his creativity and produced beautiful works that reflected his artistic vision. Outside of his academic endeavors, Gary had a profound love for the beach, which became a cherished escape for him. He was an enthusiastic surfer, often found riding the waves and enjoying the ocean's beauty. After completing college, he embraced his passion for surfing even further by traveling to Hawaii, where he immersed himself in the surf culture.
In his personal life, Gary and Virginia together, they welcomed three wonderful children who brought immense joy to his life. He delighted in taking his children on various adventures and trips, fostering a spirit of exploration and creating unforgettable memories. Music was another important aspect of Gary's life, and he cherished sharing this passion with his children, enriching their experiences on all their journeys together.
Gary's legacy lives on through his loving mother, Lorraine, his two brothers, Steve and Joe, and his three beloved children Cody, Erik and Emily. He is also survived by a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts, celebrating the joy and love he brought into their lives.
We will be holding this event on January 27, 2025 at 11am at Harbor Lawn-Mt.Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary followed by a reception at Back Bay Gardens Recreational Room, 350 Riviera Drive Costa Mesa, CA 92627
