His family moved to northern California when Jack was about nine year old and settled in Chico, California. In his late teens they moved south to the Inglewood area. Jack worked at various jobs that were available at the time and when World War II started, he was drafted into the Army in November of 1941. He spent four years in the quartermaster as a truck driver hauling troops and supplies. Two years were spent in Alaska. On furlough home in July of 1944 he married his long time love Joyce. After discharge at the end of the war, they settled in Inglewood, California. Jack went to work as a carpenter for Oltmans Construction Company now located in Whittier, California. He came up through the ranks and became a superintendent, supervising the construction of many building throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties, and retired after 40 years with the company. They had moved to Costa Mesa, California in 1973, and after retirement he spent leisure time enjoying ocean fishing and gardening. He is survived by his wife Joyce of their Costa mesa home; sister, Hazel Dotson, Hemet, California; sister-in-law, Catherine Andersen, Riverside, California; niece, Teri Abramavic, Vista, California; niece, Patricia Rangel, Chico, California; nephew, Tom Halle, Caldwell, Idaho. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 starting at 1:00PM in the chapel at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary.
