Gone Too Soon
James Bernard Woodworth, lovingly known as “Jaimie,” went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2025, at Hoag Hospital in Irvine, California, at the age of 64. He courageously fought a sudden battle with cancer and left this world peacefully, with his fiancé, Ella, and several friends tearfully by his side, holding his hands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Lewis Woodworth, Sue Ann Woodworth, and his late wife of 23 years, Victoria Rae Vaughn.
Jaimie was a longtime resident of Newport Beach, California. His childhood home was in Fountain Valley, where he frequented the roller skating rink. It was there, at age 16, that he met Ella for the first time. He bought her a soda that day, and though life carried them in different directions, fate reunited them decades later at a boat parade.
An Eagle Scout, Jaimie carried his love for nature, conservation, recycling, and angling throughout his life. He studied Ichthyology at Pepperdine University and Marine Sciences at Orange Coast College, blending his academic interests with his passion for fishing. Later on, he went to work for Boeing as a 747/757 aircraft mechanic specializing in wings. He also founded Shark Fishing Industries, owned a steal shop, a shell store, and several local properties.
A proud patriot, Jaimie loved his country and was known for flying a giant American flag over his three-car garage on holidays. He was a proud member of numerous organizations, including Sons of the American Legion Post 291, the American Legion Yacht Club, the Free Masons, the Elks Lodge, and the Balboa Angling Club.
Jaimie was a well-known local icon on the Balboa Peninsula, where his grandparents owned several homes, gifted him a shore mooring at age 12, and generously donated a pipe organ to the peninsula’s first church. He spent his final years together with Ella, enjoying a variety of restaurants, attending numerous concerts, caring for their many pets, shopping, and supporting various Christian ministries. He will be remembered for his loving heart, acts of kindness, adventurous spirit, generosity, love of the ocean, and unwavering patriotism. During his final weeks, he watched TBN on TV often and texted the following scripture to Ella:

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about these things.”
