James K. Jackson passed away at his home in Santa Ana, CA, on Monday, Feb. 11, 2019 at age 89. Jim was born on Dec. 19, 1929, in San Diego to James and Madeline (Devine) Jackson. He graduated from Excelsior HS and served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War. He worked for GTE retiring at age 58 in 1988. As an entrepreneur, Jim owned Jackson Hole Apartments where the whole family pitched in to help out.
Jim loved working on his Ford Model Ts and driving them on road trips. He enjoyed square dancing, travelling and the many family vacations including the annual July 4th Devine/Jackson/Dawson Reunion. Being an avid boater and skier, he taught all of his kids to water ski and they made many trips with cousins and friends to lakes in the area.
Jim was a member of the Garden Grove Elks Lodge, Orange County Model T Ford Club, Model T Ford Club of America, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, GTE Old Timers, Knights of Columbus, and Alumni Assoc. of Excelsior HS.
Jim was preceded in death by his most beloved wife of 45 years, Judy (Sadie) Jackson, infant son Kevin, brother Duke, sisters Jean Price, Ruth Shaw.
Jim is survived by children Debbie (Mark) Mahoney, Diane (Michael) Jackson-Vieira, James Jackson, Danette (Robert) Cornell, Richard (Nancy) Jackson, David (Lisa) Jackson; sisters Margie (John) Zingg-Williams, Shirley Poole, Susie (Tony) Coffin; brother-in-law Jerry Price; friend Pauline Correa; Caregivers Beth and Norma; 20 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church: 17270 Ward St. Fountain Valley. Viewing at 10:00, Rosary at 10:30, Mass at 11:00. You may come in at any of these start times to join the services. After Mass, you are invited to join the family at Garden Grove Elks Lodge: 11551 Trask Ave. Gravesite burial on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 11:00 at Good Shepherd Cemetery: 8301 Talbert Ave Huntington Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles-Heart Institute (chla.org/donatetoday), Model T Club of America, Garden Grove Elks Lodge, Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center (mysupportlpch.org) as this center is where Jim’s 6 year old great grandson “Ketch” receives care for a rare heart defect.
