Jess Edward Sturgeon, age 76, passed away on January 3, 2021 in Fountain Valley, California.
Jess had a magic personality that lit up a room with his wonderful sense of humor, wit, kind heart and endless jokes. Jess was an avid drag racer know in the racing circle as “The Flea”. He started racing in the early 1960’s and retired with many successes in 2018. He was General Manager of Crane Rental Services, in Orange California, for twenty six years. His greatest joy was his Grandchildren and sharing stories and pictures with everyone he met. His love for his Daughter and step-children was unconditional.
He was born in Santa Monica, California to Warren and June Sturgeon on February 29, 1944. Jess was raised in El Segundo, California and graduated from El Segundo Senior High School in 1962 and went on to attend El Camino Jr. College. After college, he went to work at the Standard Oil Refinery, in El Segundo as a draftsman and map topographer. He married his wife, Barbara, on February 8, 1974 in Santa Monica, California and moved to Costa Mesa, California where he resided until his death.
He was predeceased by his Mother and Father and his Brother Steve. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughter, Leslie Brady, his step-son Robert Devitt and daughter-in-law Jennifer Devitt, his step-son, Matthew Devitt, his step-daughter Kathryn McLeod, his sister-in-law Kris Sturgeon, His sister-in-law, Erica Zahrt and Brother-in-law Stan Zahrt, his brother- in-law Major Terry Morris, his nine Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren and his Brother, Douglas Sturgeon.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
