Mildred "Millie" Schenewark passed away Sunday, December 20th, 2020, 96 years young. She was born in Buffalo, New York to Marcie Leo Skinner and Mabel Blanche Whitman. Her only sibling was Ruth Skinner Brahm. Millie and Ruth were raised in Sylmar, California, on Tyler Street.
Millie, in her youth, had been called "Skinny" Skinner. Later on some of her friends called her "Thoroughly Modern Millie." She had a passion for playing the piano. She read the entire Harry Potter series. She loved trips to the beach, soaking up the sun, playing games, and riding aquamats on the waves.
Millie was married to Ralph Schenewark, September 8th, 1945. This union developed three daughters Debi, Sharon, and Linda. Millie had three grandchildren Nick, Macy, and Richard and three great grandchildren Madeline, Charlie, and Zackary. The grandchildren will always and forever lovingly refer to her as Grandma.
After high school, Millie started working in San Diego for a plane manufacturer named Consolidated. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" during WWII. She retired from McDonnell Douglas which later became Boeing.
Millie had a specific set of skills. She always performed well in school. She was meticulous with her work tools. She ran a tight ship when it came to managing her RV. Her travel inventory always kept us prepared. She kept lists on videos she watched, books she read, United States capitals, and Freecell games she had completed and desired to complete.
Millie was a lover of animals. She had a number of pets in her life.
Some of her closest pets were Binky, Little Dog, and Shelby.
Millie was a camper. Getting deep in the weeds to hunt blackberries was a high priority. She would beam returning from a side excursion to a casino. During Millie and Ruth's married years, there were a number of consecutive traditional trips that they would take to Carpenteria campground. Each stay would normally last about 10 days. Millie would take her children Debi, Sharon, and Linda. Ruth would take her children Steve, Bruce, and Sandy. Ruthie Clair would bring her children George, Suzie, and Cathy.
She was a gamer. She was always up for a game. She liked crossword puzzles, video games, rummy cubes, spades, sociable rummy, canasta, etc.
During the years when Millie was living life on her own, she would go to great lengths to have a good time with her friends. She would get all dolled up, along with some of her best jewelry.
Millie preferred baking rather than cooking. Some of her signature dishes were cream cheese pie, cranberry relish, and green jello dessert. The jello dessert was the right color because green was without a doubt her favorite color.
Millie enjoyed the holidays with family. She liked to watch the Rose parade with warmed Cinnabons ready for consumption. She also was eager to have a good strawberry ice cream margarita. She dedicated many hours to Christmas tree decorating.
Millie was the type of person you could always go to. And we did.
Various family members stayed with her during different periods of time. She had lots of love for the family spouses. It was important to her that we all had spouses that really loved us and were worthy of our love.
Millie always had the right balance of fun and business. She had fun enough to always have a great time while taking care of the things that needed to be taken care of. Millie was more than we could have ever expected to ask for.
