

Robert was born in Richmond, VA on December 1st, 1958, he was the oldest son of Robert Lyell Vanlandingham, Sr. and Shirley Jean Hanks. When Robert turned eighteen years old he voluntarily enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, following his father's example of joining the military. While stationed in Twentynine Palms, CA Robert met his wife, Maria. With thirty one years of marriage, they raised three children and two grandchildren.
Over the course of his life, he pursued his passion for security work as a soldier in the National Guard, a private body guard, and a private security contractor overseas. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family, study, reading, writing, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed conversing and giving personal counsel about careers in the military. He will always be remembered as a loving, compassionate, motivating and humble man.
He is predeceased by his father Robert Lyell Vanlandingham, Sr. He is survived by his mother; Shirley Jean Hanks, his wife; Maria Elena Figueroa Vanlandingham, his children; Garrett Steven Vanlandingham, Shirley Sabina Vanlandingham, Blanca Michelle Vanlandingham Rothblatt, his son-in-law; Brian Patrick Rothblatt, his grandchildren; London Paige Rothblatt and Eva Monroe Rothblatt, his brothers; Todd Fax Vanlandingham, Brian Lee Vanlandingham, and Mark Hughes Vanlandingham; and sister Robin Vanlandingham Laird.
