and for the next 91 years made friends everywhere she went.
She fed and housed a host of friends, relatives and more than a few strangers.
She made lifelong friends at Los Alamitos and Norwalk Senior Centers and every bingo game in her area.
She married the love of her life, Paul Prewett, on November 26, 1950.
They were blessed with two sons, Darrel and Rick, and soon bought a new home in Long Beach.
They created a successful catering business together, which Ruth continued to run for several years after Paul's death in 1958.
The following years were a challenge, but Ruth succeeded in raising her sons on her own, working several jobs at once to make ends meet,
and eventually becoming the Records Manager for Long Beach Unified School District. She served a term as president of CSEA, and finally retired
from the school district in 1989. The next twenty-nine years of her life were spent her way....traveling, volunteering, playing bingo, and enriching
the lives of her family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul Prewett, her son Darrel Prewett, her brother Morton Schneider, two sisters, Edith Volkmann and Faygie Colton, and granddaughter Lisa Smith. She is survived by her son Rick (Paula) Prewett, her grandchildren Michael (Georgia) Prewett, Rachael Prewett, and Matthew Prewett, her great-grandchildren Evelyn Prewett and Katelyn Prewett,
and her sister, Evelyn Gurevitch. She is also survived by her stepson Gary (Pam) Smith, her adopted-in-love children Dede Hulett and Tim Hulett and grandchildren Gina, Cara and Levi (Angela) Smith and Chris (Kelly) Hulett, Cara (Richie) Hulett and Chelsey Hulett. Ruth also leaves behind numerous
nieces and nephews to whom she was simply "Momo."
She always said "when I'm gone, don't say she lived a long life, say she should have lived one more day." Ruth passed away on August 9, 2018 at her home in Long Beach surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Sunday August 12, 2018 at Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Memorial Park
in Costa Mesa followed by a graveside service at Westminster Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
No one who has been a part of her life can ever forget her.
