Anthony (Tony) Hill passed away suddenly at home on May 16, 2020 with his loving wife Lynda at his side.
Tony was born in Sunderland, England during WW2 on May 26, 1940. He moved to Canada in 1948 with his parents and grew up in Saskatoon, Sask. He married Charlotte in 1960 and they moved west to BC and they had 2 children. In 1975 Tony met Lynda and they embarked on a 45 year journey together, marrying in 1990.
Tony spent many years employed as a mechanic with air-cooled Volkswagens becoming his specialty. His passion for "all things fast" led him to building high performance engines and drag racing his 1955 beetle. Many long lasting friendships were forged in the VW community and Tony enjoyed helping other racers pursue their goals.
In later years, he changed professions becoming a threading specialist for paper machines. This took Tony on many journeys to Europe, China and the USA.
In 2003, Tony and Lynda retired to Vancouver Island where Tony was finally able to enjoy his ham radio hobby along with many new friendships made in the local ham community. He was a loving and supportive husband, happily taking on projects that Lynda dreamed up and spent many hours working in the yard and fixing things instead of throwing them away. He was a good neighbour and friend, always ready to lend a helping hand. Tony was an avid cook and an adventurous eater, he enjoyed making sushi and made wonderful Chinese food dishes. His organizational skills in his workshop were envied by many.
Pre-deceased by his parents Peter and Ella Hill and his sister Pauline. He will be missed by his wife Lynda (nee Lyons), daughter Shelley, son Tony and 6 grandchildren.
Tony's wishes for cremation and no service have been honoured.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your favourite animal rescue society to honour Tony's love of animals.
