Barry was born in Doncaster, England and met his first wife, Kathleen O’Shea in Coventry, England where they were married and started their family. While living in Coventry, Baz worked most of his years at the Triumph motorcycle factory, which became a source of pride and many stories for decades to come.
Barry, Kath, and their four children, Steven, Joanne, Michael, and David immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1976. Before beginning his career at Greyhound, Barry enjoyed his time as a milkman. Barry was a dedicated and hands-on father; everyone looked forward to Monday nights for his eggs and chips. Friday evenings Baz and Kath could be found with their close circle of “ex-pat” friends playing darts, drinking tea (beer), and reminiscing about the good ole England days. England was always a big part of who Barry was and he was a proud Yorkshireman.
After Kath passed away in 2001, Baz found the second love of his life, Rae Goring, and they married and resided in Red Deer. During this time Barry was a dedicated driver with Meals on Wheels and very much appreciated “his” clients. After ten years in Red Deer Barry, Rae, and their much loved bulldog, Olivia, moved to beautiful Comox on Vancouver Island, where they loved hosting family and friends. Much of this time was spent sharing memories and reflecting on their good fortune.
Barry could always be counted on for a good story and a laugh. As someone who didn’t expect a lot, Barry was so appreciative and thankful for all that came his way and he always found such joy in even the simplest of things, like having his “Tim’s”, watching a favourite movie over and over, driving anywhere in the Comox Valley, and scrolling on his iPad. Nothing brought Baz more joy than the love he shared with his grandchildren and he couldn’t have been more proud of his four children.
Barry was predeceased by his first wife, Kathleen O’Shea and his parents, Olga and Ernest. Barry is survived and will be lovingly missed by his wife, Rae and his four children, Steve, Joanne (Alex Jones), Mike (Julide), and Dave, and his adored grandchildren, Rebecca, Ace, Connor, Elliot, Dylan, Hamish, Maddox, Josh, Indie, Max, and Mason, all of Calgary. He will be fondly missed as well by Rae’s children, Aaron Kennedy (Lisa), Lindsay Peace and Marshall Kennedy and by her siblings, Glenn Goring (Arlene), Rob Goring (Bev), and Elvy Goring and their children.
Barry has been cremated and his remains will be placed alongside Kath’s in Calgary, followed by a small gathering.
