

Bernhard Friederich Bunzendahl was born in October, 1945, in Germany, where he was raised primarily by his mother and grandmother. In his youth he enjoyed swimming, tennis, and field hockey, and in his teens he would sneak away on his bike to visit his father in another town. In his final year at school he decided to assume his mother’s name of Boesemeyer.
He met Brigitte Strate in 1963 and they were married 8 years later, at which point he added skiing, bowling, scavenger hunting and car rallies to his list of activities. He had been an entrepreneur since the age of 23, running various large retail outlets.
Bernd produced 2 offspring, with the help of Brigitte, and proved to be a loyal family man. At the age of 36 he uprooted his family and took them to Canada, where new activities consumed his bold personality.
brought his family in to his newfound love of photography, camping, fishing and hunting. New business pursuits included the flipping of houses, an auto body shop, ergonomic furniture, and computer services.
After moving with Brigitte to Vancouver Island, at the age of 60, he added landscaping, boating, and woodworking to his list of exploits, and the two tried their hand at running a Bed and Breakfast. Later he supported Brigitte’s venture of running a lottery booth.
On June 4, 2015, after several months of struggle, he lost his fight with lung cancer. He faced these last months with courage and dignity.
In the end he will always be remembered for his adventurous spirit and having been a crazy driver!!!
Bernd was predeceased by his mother, Ingeborg Boesemeyer, his father, Fritz Bunzendahl, and his son, Frank Boesemeyer.
He is survived by his wife, Brigitte (nee Strate) and his daughter, Sabine.
