We are saddened to announce the passing of Hans Christian Larsen the 16th of September Hans is survived by his loving wife of 67 yrs. daughter Anita(Hans) son Lars, brother Lars(Nancy) 3 grandchildren Sanne, Jan, Chantal and 4 great grandchildren Marcus, Frederikke, Mikkeline & Lucia.
Hans was born in Silkeborg, Denmark and immigrated to Calgary, Alberta in 1948. He was a talented sign painter and started his career in 1954 with Alcan sign painting on the Kenney Dam project outside of Vanderhoof. The same year he met and married the love of his life, Grethe and they moved to Kemano, later Kitimat. Here he was dedicated to his job in Public relations, putting his skills to use producing pamphlets, promotional items and special mementoes until retirement after 36 yrs.
Following retirement from Alcan, Hans & Grethe left Kitimat to where Hans always called “The beautiful Comox Valley”. Here he had time to start his passion as an amateur painter.
His work has often been shown at the Pearl Ellis Gallery and also been exhibited in Courtenay, Campbell River, Victoria and Vancouver. His paintings can be found in privat collections as far as Iceland, Japan, and Australia. United States and of course Denmark.
We would like to say thank-you to the staff in the Comox Valley Hospital and Comox Valleys Seniors Village for their respectful and compassionate care the last few months.
We will miss his fantastic humor and his whistling.
