It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Harriette on October 22, 2017, after a long hospital stay. Harriette was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 11, 1923. Harriette was predeceased by her parents John Thomas Savage and Marie Evelyn Savage (née Asselin) and her brother John Patrick Savage. She is survived by her brother's four children and their families in Ottawa, ON, and Montreal, QC. And all her many friends she made over the years. She grew up in Montreal and worked as a bookkeeper, before deciding to move out west. Harriette worked at a resort in Victoria then bought the Singing Sands Resort at Saratoga Beach. She then moved to Courtenay, BC, where she worked and owned the Bowling Alley in Courtenay for two years. Later she was the bookkeeper for Ye Olde Cobblers in Courtenay. She had also opened her own shop Gourmet Pantry in Courtenay, selling frozen dinner foods and ice cream.
Harriette's great love of animals showed in her many rescued dogs and the stray cats she fed. She loved crows too. She fed them every day so that they wouldn't eat the cherries from her trees in her back yard. And it worked! There will be a viewing on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Piercy's-Mt. Washington Funeral Home (440 England Ave, Courtenay) followed by a Graveside Service at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at 1:00 pm at St. George's United Church (505 - 6th Street, Courtenay).
