On Friday September 13th the world lost a great man. Howie was born and raised in the Comox Valley. Loving husband to Cynthia (Cyndy) Knodel. Son to Edna and Emil Knodel. Brother to Norm (Barb), Janis (Melvin), Donald, Randy, Gary and Paul. Father to Jason (Kendra), Megan (Scott), Ashlee and Opal. Papa to Ella, Liam, Scarlett, Owen and a new grandchild due in February. Uncle to Darryl, Lynette, Catrina, Teresa, Bobby, Randy, Rene, Darren, Rylan, Tyler. Great uncle to Charlotte, Cassandra, Elizabeth, Kaitlin, Joey, Addison, Audrey and Zoey.
Howie loved his job and coworkers at the CVRD landfill and found joy in his excavating business on his days off. He fiercely loved his kids and grandkids and he was the best papa ever! He loved a cold beer, hot coffee and vacationing with his friends. Classic cars and backyard bonfires.
To know him was to love him. A “shirt off your back” kind of man who was always willing to help anyone in need. Strong and stoic but also ready to crack a joke at any time and at anyone's expense.
He had an amazing group of friends, the “gang” was always up for a party, celebration or a bonfire and they supported and loved him until his final days.
Howie braved his short battle with pancreatic cancer with so much strength and perseverance until the end. We will miss him everyday until our time comes to be together again.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be held on Saturday September 28th from 2-7pm at the upper Elks hall. 231 6th street in Courtenay. Cash bar available. Howie loved a potluck. So bring a dish to share if able and all your fondest memories.
