Dianne Fireweed Radmore:  What a woman! Kate moved me to Denman Island from Vancouver in the early 90's... even let me stay overnite at her house without knowing me at all at the time (I had just heard that she was the person to call with a truck!) I think she only charged me about $50...including doing the heavy lifting. She was kind, generous, and a fabulous role model. RIP Kate!!

Jon Laskin: When I worked at the old co-op store in the 70's, as a teen I'll never forget her throwing boxes out of the back of the truck unloading and I had to catch them and stack them and make sure you weren't too slow cuz you'd get hit by a the next box, she thought it was funny and worked as hard as fast as she could to unload

Karen Ross: Jon Laskin so true!

Bunty Quantrill: She was amazing, as was Sandy. A pleasure to know and work with people who had such a knack for making it all work.

Annie Fearman: Kate used to talk about sunbathing on the island highway. There were so few cars.

Lynn Nunley: Now that is a treasure of a memory. To be that quiet.

Celia Kane: Her colourful priceless comments about the ‘roughing it’ back-to-the-lander-counter-culture hippies, as she unloaded their special orders of big boxes of exotic cashews/raisins and fancy teas etc , at the co-op unloading dock. Lol ! Well worth the challenge of catching the cargo, flying like bullets at the co-op staff, out of the back of her truck. What a girl. Condolences to Glen.

Karen Ross: "Haulin' freight, lookin' great". What a work ethic, and such a straight shooter. She claimed that people quit hitchhiking with her, because she said - if I give them a ride the least they can do is help unload the freight. Lots of memories of her and Sandy, our regular freight liners with weekly beer and food deliveries at the Thatch. Hearts of gold! My condolences to her friends and family, may she Rest in Peace.

Suzel Bernier: Condolences to the family, I loved Kate, what a woman, strong , principled and very hard working. kate and Sandy took very good care of the Hornby community. When Glen brought some of her stuff at the free store , I made sure to keep one of her trays , she is with me all the time in my van.

Stevi Kittleson: What an amazing, hardworking, big laughing, fierce, proud and generous woman. Have been thinking about her a fair bit lately, the role she played for my generation here, her rough prodding and giant spirit drove us on and when we weren't too intimidated to spit we were dropping our jaws in admiration. Always thought there should have been a documentary as she was one of those larger than life characters who stir the blood. Glad to have known her and our condolences to her family. Thanks for the memories Kate.

To  Kate’s Family. 
My sister Anita and I, have had the pleasure of talking with Kate at the Stanford   village during her stay.  (We were, and are, visiting our mother who is in the same facility). We have always interacted with the other residents and we found that  Kate - although lively and funny - always wished to be back to “her” home.  My sister and I know how difficult this terrible disease is - however - the family visits that we all make is because we remember - and love them - even tho they might not remember us. May you always remember the funny sweet times with Kate.
