Born in Haifa, Palestine, in 1936, she moved through life with resilience and grace. In 1959, she came to Canada, where she would go on to build not just a life, but a legacy—one rooted in family and community. She was the cherished daughter of Mary Mitchell and Jack Akly. She met the love of her life, John Haughton, at CFB Cold Lake, Alberta. Together, through several global postings, they built a life grounded in partnership and devotion, eventually settling in Comox.
Lily devoted her life to raising her four children, Nadine, Alistair, Kevin, and Corrine, but her heart extended far beyond her own home. She and John opened their doors to 24 foster children, whom they loved as their own.
She was a longstanding member of the RCAF Association, 888 Wing, for over 19 years, and a devoted member of Beta Sigma Phi, where she made lifelong friendships.
Lily was predeceased by her husband, John Haughton, and is lovingly remembered by her brothers, Gary and John Mitchell; her children; grandchildren; and extended family.
Our deepest gratitude and respect go to Dr. Weinberg and the staff at Providence Living at The Views, whose care and compassion meant so much to Lily and our family. A special thanks to Drs. Hunter and Matous for their extraordinary care of our family over the past two decades.
Please join us at the Royal Canadian Air Force Association, 888 Wing, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, for a celebration of Lily's life.
