Marilyn Ethel McCarthy, also known as Butch, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2024, in Comox, BC. She was born on April 16, 1937, in Victoria, BC, to Joe and Ethel McLellan. Marilyn was a hardworking individual who had a passion for gardening, sewing, baking, and traveling. She took great pride in her skills as an excellent seamstress and baker. Marilyn was also an avid bowler and loved to dance.
Marilyn's true joy in life came from her family. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Ted McCarthy, for an incredible 66 years. Together, they created cherished memories while traveling in their beloved motorhome, lovingly named the "Dream Weaver." Marilyn was a loving and caring mother to her son, Ken McCarthy (Glenda), and her daughters, Marilyn Strachan (Jim) and Patti McCarthy. She adored her seven granddaughters, one grandson, 14 great-grandchildren and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her first great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brothers, Ronnie McLellan and Chum McLellan. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life to honor Marilyn's remarkable life will be held in the spring. Details of the service will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Marilyn's memory to the BCSPCA, an organization that was close to her heart.
Marilyn Ethel McCarthy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warm smile, kind heart, and love for life will forever be remembered. May she rest in peace.
