I Remember when she took me to meet my uncle Alec and I ended up getting a model Spitfire that day and I just loved it so much then the Propeller fell off and I was so sad and she told me don’t worry I can fix it and she did I was I don’t remember when but I remembered that cuz she made me feel so happy there and I remember helping her in the Garden

I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to Nola's family.I got to know Nola when she was searching for her family roots here in England. At the same time I was researching my family and wondering where and why some had emigrated to Canada. We got in touch and found that we were cousins, sharing the same Great Grandfather.I remember how thrilled Nola was, now that the "puzzle" was complete.
  We stayed in touch,and she sent me vivid accounts of Vancouver Island, she was such a wonderful writer, she made you feel that you were there sharing with her.Then she became unwell, and it was a privilege to share in her thoughts and fears but her courage shone through.
   I didn't get to meet Nola or even speak to her, I didn't need to, as this remarkable lady was able to express her love of her country, Courtenay, Gold River and especially her family in the written word.
    I will always remember Nola as a warm, kind, loving,intelligent and very brave lady. I'm so pleased that I got to know Nola and will treasure our e-mails and photos she sent me, and she will always hold a special place in my heart. God Bless you Nola.

My sincerest condolences to Nola's family.  I first met Nola when she was on a float camp down the Muchalat Inlet.  She had just tragically lost her young son, Joey.  I was living in Gold River; I didn't know her, but I sent her a sympathy card.  She responded and while she lived at the camp we corresponded.  One summer day there was a knock at our front door and a young man presented us with a large ice cream bucket filled with fresh, cleaned crab meat and said it was from Nola.  Then I visited her down the inlet and we exchanged books and magazines when she came into town.  She was such a kind, generous, warm-hearted woman.  I am sorry that I did not realize that she lived in the Comox Valley as I have been living here for a few years.  My deepest sympathy for your loss.  Nola was a wonderful person.

I will always remember the poppies, old coins and treasures, dress up and CCR - I heard it through the grapevine. I love you and miss you terribly.I am sorry I wasn't there today, I know you would understand. Thank you for the visit a few weeks ago, I will cherish that time forever.

Nola was one of my older sisters.. So while i was growing up she was getting married and having kids...It wasnt until i came out to Sointula to finally be with my big sister... I am proud of the times we had together and this last month was special for us because we were finally alone to be true sisters.. I thank God for the opportunity of having those moments...

We have lost a dear lady,,She was such a wonderful addition to the community of Sointula while she lived here. We were all blessed with her great smile and helpful hands. She was such a dedicated volunteer in our community.  She and her family will always remain Sointula folk that we all love and care about.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I first met Nola at an ex-Airwomen's Reunion and enjoyed her company. She was so cheerful and outgoing. Her smile was contagious and she had such a positive outlook on life. I will miss her friendship. My sincere condolences to her family.

I first met Nola when we both lived in Sointula. Later, when we'd both moved to Courtenay, I would see her around town from time to time. Like all of us, Nola had ups and downs in her life. But no matter what, she was always cheerful and friendly. I'll miss her smile.

Nola was standing next to us and asked if we had been airwomen as she had been one. We invited her to join us at Billy D's and we had a great chat and convinced her that she should come to the reunion, too. She did and had a great time. That smile and her exuberant personality charmed everyone she met. We will miss her at the reunion in Edmonton this June. Per ardua as astra, my friend
