It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Ellison. Pat is predeceased by her husband, Ted (2007), her younger sister Cathy (2010), and her parents, George (1977) and Vera (1988.) Pat is survived by her siblings Larry (Isobel), Alan, Margaret (Glen), Charlotte (Michael), and Rob (Jane) and by her four adult children Colleen (Rob), Shelley (Mark), Rick (Renee), Kimberley (Barak) and grandchildren Brett, Brook, Carlie, Erika, and Taitum as well as many nieces and nephews.
Pat was born in Calgary and spent some of her early years as a farm girl; on a small farm in Calgary and later on a farm in Tsolum where she roamed the acres and kept pace with her 2 brothers. She later became a big sister (and helpful babysitter) when the family grew by four additional children. Pat always loved softball and when the family moved into Courtenay, she became the star pitcher with her CRA team. As a southpaw, her coach nick-named her “Lefty” – a name Pat affectionately reminisced about to her grandchildren many years later.
Before having children Pat worked at the Post Office in Courtenay. Ted’s sister, Gerry, also worked at the Post Office, and that was how Pat met her husband, Ted. Ted owned and flew a Cessna 180 on floats, and Pat – a thrill-seeker at heart - enjoyed many hours flying the coast of British Columbia with Ted.
Pat modeled an active life for her children and grandchildren, participating in bowling, curling, and physical fitness throughout her life. Pat’s children remember with gratitude all the hours she sacrificed driving them to music lessons, hockey, figure skating, gymnastics, and tennis, to name a few of the many activities. This love of sport and physical activity has been passed along to each of her grandchildren as well.
Pat loved living in her beautiful condo by the water in Comox . She also loved her dog Whidby, and enjoyed taking her out and about for walks around the park and marina near her place.
Pat’s family will miss her greatly but her memory will live on in her children and grandchildren. A private Celebration of Life has been held for family.
