The family of Dr. Ruth Levitsky is sad to announce her passing on April 9, 2012 at Cumberland Lodge in Cumberland, BC. Ruth was born in Freeman, Missouri on March 16, 1913. She is survived by her step- daughter Zoë Levitsky (John Clark) of Comox, BC and Joy Anderson (Michael Anderson) of Tubac, Arizona, three grandchildren and their families (five great-grand-children) in S. California. She married Homer Jones in her early 20's and they had Joy. A few years later they divorced and she began her graduate studies while raising Joy on her own. She began her career in a one room school in 1935 and ended it as a full professor at the University of Waterloo in 1978. Ruth was a Shakespearean scholar and she reluctantly retired from teaching at age 65. After retiring she and her second husband, Ihor Levitsky (deceased, 1984) moved to Victoria, BC. After his passing she spent her last years near her daughter Zoë in the Comox Valley, BC. She had a strong work ethic and set of principles. She pursued her academic interests into her 90's and published a book and grammar handbook in her 90's. She cared deeply for her family and friends. Ruth enjoyed travelling, history, literature, classical music, writing and having fun. She appreciated beautiful things and supported many efforts towards World Peace. If you wish to make donation to a charity in her memory, these are the ones she supported monthly: Habitat for Humanity, Canadian Red Cross, Project Ploughshares, Physicians for Global Survival, Care Canada and World Vision.
