It is with sadness that the family of Vivian Wong announces her passing on Friday, January 13, 2017, succumbing to congestive heart failure, in Courtenay, BC. Vivian was born in Shellbrook, SK in December 1936, one of eight children. Mom trekked to Prince Rupert to work in 1955 where she met and then married a Norwegian logger by the name of Percy Wong in 1956. Soon they were off to the Queen Charlotte Islands, with Percy’s young son Gerry following later. Eventually Darrel and Randy were born. Vivian was a wonderful homemaker, raising the boys and enjoyed curling in her free time. Typical logging family, they moved from Moresby to Port Alice, then Holberg and back to settle in Port Alice. Percy was later injured in a car accident and the two moved to Courtenay in 1989. Mom maintained contact with the people she met in the camps and from Saskatchewan. She rarely forgot a birthday or anniversary. Mom had a knack for remembering information about family trees and was able to recall who was who and how each person was connected. Mom always followed a question with a question and all our friends came prepared to have answers for the inevitable inquisition that would ensue. Always quick with a laugh and a kind heart, she will be missed by all who knew her. We wish to thank Dr. Nancy McFadden, Dr. Sue Hunter and all the care aides who made Mom’s home care possible. Vivian is predeceased by her husband, Percy; son, Darrel; granddaughter Sabrina; parents George and Lillian Stene; and sister Bettie Horan. Vivian will be lovingly remembered by her sons Gerry (companion Eva); Randy (Jackie); grandchildren, sisters, brothers, aunts and uncles, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A graveside service will be announced and held at a later date in Porcupine Plain, SK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Vivian’s name may be made to the CNIB, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
