CORRIGAN, Bernard William – peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on April 30th, 2012. Cherished husband of Anna McKenny for sixty years. He was born on June 22nd, 1923, the first in a family of eight to John and Margaret Corrigan of Read, Ontario. Surviving him are his five sisters, Eileen McHenry (Jerome, deceased), Dreda Marks (Ray, deceased), Anne Buckley (Harold, deceased), Marilyn Corrigan and Joan McCullough (Len) and his brother Patrick (Mary McKenny), predeceased by his brother Adrian. Also survived by sisters-in-law Helen (Buzz Hanley), Bernice (Frank Corrigan), Frances McKenny (Lorne, deceased), Marion McKenny (Leo, deceased), and brothers-in-law Don McKenny (Jean, deceased) and James McKenny (Marina). Predeceased by Ed and Margaret McGuinness, Vincent and Eileen McKenny, Kevin and Jerome Corrigan and Ruth Fitzgerald. Bernard was a treasured uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a faithful member of St. Gertrude’s Parish since 1962.
After his retirement from GM, Bernard enjoyed his workshop where he, with Anna’s assistance, created Nativity Cribs and donated them to young children thereby perpetuating the true meaning of Christmas. Many of his projects reflected his love for the agricultural days of his childhood. He will be sadly missed.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice (905-432-8484). Visitation will be on Thursday May 3rd, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday May 4th, 2012 at 10 a.m. Interment at St. Charles Borromeo Parish Cemetery, Read Ontario. Donations to the ALS Society of Ontario or St. Gertrude’s Building Fund are gratefully appreciated.
