One thing that is for sure, you always remember your favourite teacher. "Mrs. Higgins" taught my son Thomas in kindergarten at Bowmore Public School. He was only three (almost four) when he started junior kindergarten in 1993 - an age when you worry if they are too young to be in school. But Elaine was so incredibly warm and welcoming, I never had to worry that he wasn't in the best hands. Your firsts in life are so important and she knew how to make this first special. My sincere condolences to the family.

Elaine and I have been friends for close to 60 years. In our teenage years we were almost inseparable and shared so many of our hopes and dreams. Elaine was so supportive and caring and I knew that if ever I needed to talk to her, she would be there even it if was 1:00 in the morning. As the years progressed, we both had our families and continued to enjoy our children with visits. We didn’t see each other like we used to as teens, but our phone conversations and visits were a very precious part of my life.

Elaine is one of the most inspiring, happy and caring people that I have known. I believe that our friendship was a gift of God to me. I will miss her so much, but I feel blessed that I was a part of her life for 60 years. Thank you Elaine, for your precious gift of friendship that was filled with love. You will always be in my heart.

Elaine was the love of my life every day for the last 54 years we were married. I love her so much and will miss her every day and every moment. She made me a better person by marrying me. Our life together produced 2 wonderful children, Janice and David and Elaine was so pleased and very proud of them both.

Elaine was a quality person. Always positive, super kind and very generous with her time for family and friends. She was a class act. In our younger days she really enjoyed the outdoors, lots of canoe camping trips and later our cottage was the top of her agenda. In the last few years she enjoyed the ravine backyard, watching the birds at the feeder and the chipmunks and squirrels chasing each other.

For 32 years Elaine taught reading classes and kindergarten. Every day was a joy for her to teach and over the years her students would reach out with their kind thoughts at Christmas.

I would like to share a story with you that shows what an exceptional person Elaine was. We were at the cottage 6 or 7 years ago and my heart stopped. Elaine performed CPR and revived me and when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer she was beside me at every treatment and all appointments over the course of 2 1/2 years, always lifting my spirits and providing support. I dearly wish I could have helped her in her time of distress.

You can understand why she is loved so much by family and friends.

I love you Elaine always, your husband Paul

Elaine was always so loving and kind, she always had a smile on her face and loved seeing her great grandchildren. April loved to visit great grandma in the basement and play with the little ducks she had. She will be greatly missed.

My Grandma was always the most loving, caring person in the room, I will always remember the songs she would sing when in the kitchen, or how we would make snow cones at our cottage trips. She was an inspiration and a teacher to everyone and it makes me blessed that my children were able to spend time with her.

My grandma has been one of my biggest supporters and has been there for every milestone thus far in my life.

She was one of the first ones that i would invite to come and watch me play soccer during my games while growing up and she would cheer me on the entire time.

My grandma also supported me with all of my dreams and aspirations and was so proud that I went off to college and became a Nurse. She was so proud and would constantly tell everyone about my accomplishments, which brought so much happiness into my life!

I’m going to miss her bright and energetic smile. Her laughter, warmth, compassion and kind-hearted gestures will be remembered in all of our hearts and memories.

I love and miss you deeply grandma,
Love Amanda

Elaine was the best Mother in law you could ever dream of. She made me feel welcome and part of the family since the day I met her. I will miss her contagious smile her laughter and gentle hand on your arm that let you know she was listening and really cared.

I will always remember sitting on the back deck at the cottage on our loungers reading while watching the kids play in the water. She would say it doesn’t get any better than this.

We miss you already but will never forget you, Rest In Peace Love Paula.

My grandma was so kind and thoughtful. I will miss her so much and will love her forever. She made me so happy and she was always there for me. She took so much interest in me, always asking how things were, wanted to know about my friends and the things we were doing and supported me with everything I did. She was very proud of my school grades and I always shared my report cards with her as she liked to see how I was doing. She was there for me for all my special occasions and she always knew the right things to say when I needed any advice. She loved holding my hamster and seeing our birds when she came over. I will miss having these special times with you grandma. Love Ashley

My grandma was the most sweet, calm and compassionate lady ever and anyone who knew her would say the same thing about her. I spent a lot of time with her and even at times when I'd misbehave, she would always have a way of teaching me a lesson without me even knowing it.

I had the pleasure to spend 18 great years with my amazing grandma. Weather it was spending time at the cottage or just playing games as a kid, I will always cherish our memories and hold the lessons you taught me dearly, I miss you already grandma
