Uncle Howard was a kindhearted gentle soul.He made you feel very welcome when we visited him at his home .Seeing his eyes light up when Howie spoke of the younger years getting together with the families. Then, Us talking about what was happening in our lives now. Showing Uncle Howard and his wife Yvette , pictures of all the family and taking pictures with  both of them. Looking around at all the pictures that Uncle Howard had on his walls of his life so long ago.So many great memories.!!

Howard Henry Thornton ,You were a man of great honor and you will be missed by so many.

My memories of Uncle Howard when I was a child were fantastic, His contagious smile and respect for others was a blessing.  I am so happy my brother Howard Henry Thornton and Darlene Thornton got to see him before his passing.  May you rest in peace, please tell Grama and Grampa and my dad and Auntie Joan that we miss them and love them also as we do you.

Prayers for Wendy, Brenda, Kevin and his new extended family, Uncle  will certainly be missed.

Howard  was one of D.R.P.S. first five couriers 1974 before working his way up to Property mgr. A true gentleman,  so obliging, kind hearted. A pleasure to work with  as there was always that smile attached to his positive personality.  Will appreciate the memories Howard.

So sorry to hear of Howard's passing.  I know he and Mom were a great match, always teasing each other and being kind to one another.  The whole Deman family have great memories of Howard's and Mom's (Yvette) wedding. Also of when they came to Calgary for Cody and Kathleen's wedding in June2017.  Howard loved sitting outside under the pergola with Mom beside him, holding hands with each other.  

He seemed so proud of sitting in the front row at the wedding beside Mom, feeling so conformable and part of the family.  Also at the wedding reception, they danced a lot with each other - always having a big smile on their faces. We have good memories of the dances and these are shown in the many wedding videos.

All the family was so happy that Mom and Howard had many years together.  They both made each other very happy.   Howard will be very much missed by the entire Nelson side of the family.

I was really shocked to learn of Howard’s passing and send my heart felt condolences to Yvette and all the family at this sad time.  I have very fond memories of Howard dating back to my first week on the job  as a rookie constable in early 1977.   As there were no trained officers available, I was taken out of the training class and assigned to escort Howard and a shipment of old guns to be destroyed in the smelter at Lasco Steel.  Of course, as I was still in training, I wasn’t issued a firearm yet but was in full uniform.  I said to Howard this is going to be interesting if someone tries to hijack us on the way and he just gave me one of those Howard chuckles and said don’t worry you got two arms you can protect me.  Needless to say, everything went smoothly but I always appreciated how Howard’s humour helped this green rookie.  Howard was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and over the many years we worked together he always had a ready smile and a great sense of humour.   Howard, It was my great privilege and honour to know you, rest easy old friend. 

Always the greatest person to deal with at the property bureau, Durham Regional Police. He was calm cool person always there to assist. I am certain he will be sadly missed by everyone. My condolences to his wife and family. Truely, a great man!

Uncle Howard was  an amazing uncle and family man.  He  always had a story to share and  enjoyed  participating in family events hosting many of them!  
He will be missed but at last is resting in peace.  Brenda, Wendy and Kevin  and families...from your Sault Trudeau family and local cousins ...all our  thoughts and prayers as you  celebrate the life and accomplishments of your amazing dad.
