May 16, 1941 – May 5, 2026
James “Jim” Bernard Stephens passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, with his devoted wife of 63 years, Bonnie (Anger), by his side, and was welcomed home into the arms of his Lord and Saviour.
Jim was a loving father to Leanne Stephens and Kent Stephens, and was predeceased by his daughters, Robin and Krista Stephens.
He was a dear brother to Ted (Kathy) Stephens, David (Joan) Stephens, Bill (Diane) Stephens, and Pat Reid (predeceased by her husband Gary), and a loved uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his sister Doreen Stephens.
Jim was a proud and cherished Papa to Sarah (Darryl) Markus, Hannah (Casey) MacDonald, Seth Stephens, Esther (Aaron) Spoelstra, Lydia (Jacob) Bontius, Chanelle (Danilo) Zugic, and Jenna (Justin) Samuel. His love lives on through his treasured great-grandchildren: Landon, Reid, Cooper, Jace, Greyson, Brooks, and Haven Markus; Leah, Melanie, and Audrey MacDonald; Paisley and Ryker Stephens; Natalie, Nora, and Theo Spoelstra; Quinn, Cohen, and Baby Bontius; and Reign Zugic.
He was also an honorary Papa to Brandon, Curtis and Taylor Billings and Cassandra (Carlton) Miller, each of whom held a special place in his life.
Born and raised in Belleville, Jim spent most of his life in Courtice, where he built a life rooted in hard work, faith, and family. He dedicated many years to General Motors, where he was known and loved by his many colleagues.
Jim found his greatest joy in the moments spent with those he loved—watching his grandchildren play sports, cheering from the sidelines, spending time with friends, and enjoying the quiet peace of watching birds outside his window. He was a devoted fan of the Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Blue Jays, and Buffalo Bills, and rarely missed a game.
Jim will be remembered for the laughter and joy he would bring to a room, his steady presence, his deep love for his family, and his unwavering faith. His legacy is one of love, strength, devotion, and a life well lived.
The family welcomes friends and family for visitation at Courtice Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 6:00–9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Trulls Road Free Methodist Church from 12:00–1:00 p.m. A funeral service celebrating Jim’s life will begin at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marigold Hospice Care or Trulls Road Free Methodist Church.
