Maureen McAvoy passed away peacefully in the late afternoon of March 9th, 2026 as sunlight streamed bright through her bedroom window. She was surrounded by many of her beloved family, days shy of her 90th birthday.
She was a loving wife to Daniel (deceased) and loving mother to Mary Anne (John), Jane Marie (Bill), Catherine (deceased) (John), Martha (Lawrence), Elizabeth, and Sarah (Stephen). She cherished being Granny to Thomas, Anna, Joseph, William, Elizabeth, William, Leo, Reta, James, Patrick, Maria, Kathleen, Clare, Isaac, John, Lily and Kate. She leaves her younger brother Frank Farrell (Judy) and was predeceased by older sisters Mary Kerby (Gerald) and Margaret Thompson (Clifford). Her dear presence will be remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
Mom lived a Christ-centred life, living out her faith in word and action. As a mother, she loved us through her values of hard work, perseverance, humour and charity. She was always there, a steady heart for her family. In her role as special education teacher, she encouraged the unique potential in all her students. Maureen was a supportive friend and neighbour, who listened with care and enjoyed social connection and conversation. An eager playmate with her grandchildren, Granny shared her interests in gardening, reading and baking - best butter tarts and donuts ever! Times with "Gigi" were fun and filled with laughter.
Her generous, loving spirit and bright smile will be deeply missed and yet ever present in our hearts.
