I am fortunate to have had that very positive experience through being Mike's itinerant neighbour in recent years and the happy recipient of his recyclable New Yorker magazines. Faithfully delivered in batches of three or four at a time, they were usually accompanied by Mike's disdain for the crude language throughout much of the contemporary short fiction. I will miss his perennial threat of cancelling the subscription which again, to my benefit, he accomplished only recently. He appreciated both fine fermentation and triple distillation and, if you think that poetry should be much more than lines of prose cut into shorter bits, then he's your man. A laurel crown for this true poet and wonderful (wonder-full) human being.
With fond memories and deepest sympathy,

My Dear Old Dad.
That is who he was and that is who he will always be.
He was very passionate about many things. Especially love. And occasionally Guinness.
You will always inspire me to be a better person.
Love you.

Not really expecting to see any response to this notification but , sadly, that means that people didn't get to meet Dad and they have missed out in a very positive human experience. He was a thoughtful man who had a wonderful relationship with the English language. His love for his family and his wife may not be unique but were dearly appreciated by those who were on the receiving side of the love and attention. We were lucky. We love you Dad.
